Native Range

North America. Largely resident in S. Canada, British Colombia and Newfoundland southwards to Florida and the Gulf of Mexico with a small movement westwards in winter as far as Wyoming and Texas.

British Occurence

One on Merseyside in June 2003 was considered to be an escape as the species is not migratory. (BOURC 37th Report)
