Native Range

Asia. Breeds from the Caspian Sea area, eastwards to Kyrgystan and winters in India.

British Occurence

Birds recorded on Fair Isle. July-August 1997 and another in Dumfries and Galloway in June 2004 were considered likely candidates for admittance to category A but the evidence was lacking and the species is in category D for future review. Another on Fair Isle in September 1985 was considered an escape and went into category E.(BOURC 38th Report)
