Saker Falcon Falco cherrug

Status.

Category E

Native Range

Europe, Asia and Africa. Breeds from eastern Europe eastwards to central China and winters patchily in parts of sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, northern India and China.

British Occurence

Birds at Out Skerries October 1976, Fetlar, May 1978 and Fair Isle October - December 1986. The 40th report found that the Out Skerries and Fetlar records were possibly natural occurences and the species was retained in category D but the Fair Isle record was rejected as falconers' hybrids became frequent in the 80s and identification would be difficult.(BOURC 40th Report)

Satellite tagging of birds in its native range has established birds wandering to Spain and northeast France.
