Asia. Breeds at high altitudes in Mongolia and China and winters in four discrete zones from Myanmar to Pakistan.
This species has small feral populations at scattered locations across England and Wales with concentrations around the London area and South Yorkshire. It breeds in small numbers annually and the population seems fairly stable but it is being monitored by the non-native species secretariat for fears that it could become as numerous as Canada and Greylag Geese and damage amenity grassland, pastures and crops.
