Category A and E

Native Range

Europe and Asia. Breeding range is from SE Europe eastwards to Kazakhstan and western Mongolia. Also in parts of Turkeyand western China. Western population winter around the eastern Mediterranean, those from central Asia in southern Iraq, Iran and India whilst those in Mongolia move to eastern China.

British Occurence

The species was already on category E prior to 2016 when one spent the summer in Cornwall and Devon. The same bird had previously been seen in Poland and later in France and Germany. The BOURC decided that this occurence was, on the balance of probabilities a natural occurence and the species placed on Cat A, though it also remains on Category E.
