Indian Peafowl Pavo cristatus

Category E*

Native Range

Asia. Pakistan and India south of the Himalayas

British Occurence

Probably introduced to this country by the Romans, it is kept widely in both private and public collections and probably only wanders locally when allowed free-range. A few pairs (up to 4 in 2012-2014) breed ferally but it is likely that many more go unreported.
